He isn’t showing

  • Look for the mask in the menu bar. DeskMate has no Dock icon and no window. Everything lives in its menu bar item. If it isn’t there, open DeskMate from Applications.
  • Check the trial or purchase. If the menu offers Try DeskMate Free… or Unlock DeskMate…, the trial hasn’t started or has ended. If you’ve bought it before, choose Restore Purchases.
  • Full-screen apps. He steps off any display a full-screen window has taken over, and returns when it leaves.
  • Displays and visibility. In Settings…, check that he’s switched on and allowed on the display you’re looking at.
  • Still nothing? Quit DeskMate from its menu and open it again.

Reminders

  • Create, edit and delete reminders from Reminders… (⌘R) in the menu bar item. Titles can be up to 60 characters.
  • If a notification doesn’t appear, check System Settings › Notifications › DeskMate, and any Focus that might be silencing it.
  • Reminders need your Mac awake and DeskMate running. One that came due while your Mac was asleep is delivered when it wakes.
  • Answer a reminder from the web or from the notification. Answering one clears the other.

Trial and purchases

QuestionAnswer
How long is the trial?3 days of everything. The menu counts it down. It’s free and never converts into a charge.
What does unlocking cost?$2.99, once. There’s no subscription.
New Mac, or reinstalled?Sign into the same Apple Account and choose Restore Purchases. No charge.
Family Sharing? The unlock isn’t shared through Family Sharing. It belongs to the Apple Account that bought it.

Refunds

Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com, or tell us what went wrong and we’ll help where we can.

Settings

Open Settings… (⌘,) from the menu bar item to change the character’s size, his world’s height, which displays he appears on, his personality (curious, calm or playful), how much he moves, how sensitive he is to your cursor, Reduce Motion, cobwebs, the showdown and launch at login. Changes apply immediately.

Uninstalling

  1. Choose Quit DeskMate from its menu bar item.
  2. Drag DeskMate from Applications to the Trash.
  3. To remove your settings and reminders as well, delete ~/Library/Containers/com.deskmate.mac.

Reporting a bug

It helps to include your macOS version, your Mac model, how many displays you use, and what he was doing when it happened. A screen recording is worth a thousand words.
