The short version
- Try everything free for 3 days. The trial never turns into a charge by itself.
- Unlocking is a single $2.99 purchase. No subscription, no renewals.
- Payments and refunds go through Apple.
- Reminders are a convenience. Don’t rely on them for anything critical.
Agreement
These terms govern your use of the DeskMate application for macOS (“DeskMate”, “the app”), made by Varun Chaudhary (“we”, “us”). DeskMate is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add to it. Where the two conflict, the Standard EULA wins. By installing or using DeskMate you agree to both. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.
Licence
You are granted a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use DeskMate on any Apple-branded Mac that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store’s Usage Rules. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, rent, lease, reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except where applicable law expressly allows it despite this restriction. The app, its character, artwork, animation and code remain ours.
Free trial
DeskMate offers a free trial of the whole app, reminders included, for 3 days. You start it from the purchase sheet as a $0 in-app purchase. The trial costs nothing, is not a subscription, and does not convert into a paid purchase on its own: when it ends, the character leaves your screen and the app invites you to unlock it. Your settings and reminders are kept. The trial is offered once per Apple Account.
Purchase and billing
DeskMate is free to download and unlocked by a single one-time in-app purchase.
| Product | Price | Renews |
|---|---|---|
| 3-Day Free Trial | Free | Never. It simply ends. |
| DeskMate Lifetime | $2.99, once | Never |
Prices are in US dollars and may differ in your local storefront; the price shown to you at purchase is the price that applies. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The purchase is tied to your Apple Account and can be restored at no charge on any Mac signed into it, using Restore Purchases in the DeskMate menu bar item or on the purchase sheet.
The character, reminders and other unlocked features are available only while the trial or the purchase is valid. If Apple refunds the purchase, they stop and the app invites you to buy again. Your settings stay on your Mac and come back if you do.
Refunds
All purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds directly.
Reminders
Reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee. Delivery depends on things outside the app, including your Mac being awake, DeskMate running, notification permission, Focus settings and the system clock. Don’t rely on DeskMate for medication, safety, legal, financial or other time-critical matters.
Acceptable use
Use DeskMate lawfully. Don’t use it in a way that interferes with the operation of your device or anyone else’s, or that breaches applicable law, including export control laws.
Updates and availability
We may update DeskMate and change or remove features. Updates to the unlocked app are included in the one-time purchase. If a change materially reduces what your purchase provides, you may seek a refund from Apple under its policies.
Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DeskMate is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of DeskMate, and our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Some jurisdictions don’t allow these exclusions, so they may not all apply to you, and you may have statutory rights these terms can’t change.
Apple
You and we acknowledge that these terms are between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”), and that we, not Apple, are solely responsible for DeskMate and its content. In addition:
- Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for DeskMate. Apple has no obligation to do so.
- Warranty. If DeskMate fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for DeskMate.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to DeskMate, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims that DeskMate or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- Legal compliance. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and on your acceptance of them Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Changes to these terms
Revised terms will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use DeskMate after that date means you accept them.
